Information about Cambia Thermally Modified Lumber.
Northland Forest Products is pleased to announce the formation of a new venture, Cambia by NFP®, to manufacture and sell environmentally responsible and sustainable thermally modified lumber.
Northland Forest Products operates the first Perdure oven in the United States to produce thermally modified lumber. The thermal modification process uses high heat in a controlled atmosphere to improve both dimensional stability and decay resistance of wood. Up to 80% of the energy required for thermal modification comes from the wood itself, making the process very resource-efficient.
The result is a safe, environmentally responsible and sustainable material that is up to 75% more resistant to cupping and warping. Additionally, thermal modification improves wood’s resistance to decay without the use of added chemicals. The enhanced performance and appearance of Cambia rivals that of imported hardwood species.
Cambia may be the first truly green lumber resource that performs better and costs less than alternative products developed to replace wood. Applications include decking, siding, exterior trim and hardwood flooring. For more product information on these applications, visit www.cambiawood.com
